Lauren Burke
INSTRUCTOR
Lauren Burke, a Houston native and multi-creative professional, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a focus on interdisciplinary arts from the University of Houston. She has earned accolades such as "Best Choreography for a Musical or Play" by Broadway World Houston, "Best Emerging Artist" from the Houston Fringe Festival, the Jonathan Wilkins Scholarship from the American Dance Festival, a spot in "Houston’s Top 100 Creatives" by the Houston Press, and was recognized by the City of Missouri City for her artistic curations for Black History Month.
Lauren is known for her creative collaborations, co-producing and choreographing shows like UnCovering The Legacy: Black History Celebration of Dance with Edison Arts Foundation, Visceral: An Examination of Beauty Standards with Urban Souls Dance Company, Bodyguard The Musical with Sankofa Collective, and more. Her diverse dance training includes ballet, modern: Laban, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Horton technique, and dance theatre. She has studied under esteemed instructors such as Harrison Guy (Urban Souls), Milton Myers (Alvin Ailey), Max Stone (New York), and Annie Arnoult (Open Dance Project).
Lauren is currently a company dancer and soloist with Urban Souls Dance Company and a freelance performer. She has shared the stage with Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and others. Recently, Lauren performed in Entanglements with Teresa Chapman Dance, Red Landscape with Open Dance Project, appeared in Milan Fashion Week for Moncler x Pharrell Williams with Tobe Nwigwe and the Black Angels Collective, danced in Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton's Plumshuga: The Rise of Lauren Anderson, and performed in Innominate and Red Swan by Afsaneh Aayani.
Beyond performance, Lauren serves as a Ballet Program Director for Edison Arts Foundation’s Lauren Anderson Ballet Master Class Series. Lauren also teaches various dance styles with Houston Ballet ECE, at Fort Bend Academy of Arts & Dance, The Fenyx Project, and makes teaching appearances at dance studios across Houston, including Hunter Dance Center and DanceZone. Lauren combines her background in the arts with her expertise in digital design to provide brand and marketing management for business operations, connecting them with local artists and expanding their reach.
